Danville Community College Educational Foundation Extends Scholarship Due to Federal Financial Aid Delays

Danville, VA – In response to delays with the new federal financial aid application process, the Danville Community College Educational Foundation(DCCEF) has announced an extension of the scholarship application deadline to an open deadline. This change aims to provide new and current DCC students with continued access to financial support to reduce tuition costs.

Recognizing the significant impact of tuition and textbook costs on students' higher education decisions, Dr. Shannon Hair, Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Development and Executive Director of the DCC Educational Foundation, emphasized the potential benefits of these scholarships.

"The scholarships provided by the DCCEF, when combined with financial aid, have the potential to offset all out-of-pocket costs for our students," Dr. Hair stated.

Dr. Hair expressed deep gratitude to the donors and stakeholders, acknowledging their critical role in the foundation's ability to offer substantial financial assistance.

"We rely heavily on our generous partners to help fund our student scholarships," Dr. Hair said. “Without their continuous support, we would not be able to positively impact our students in this important way.”

Hair encouraged all eligible students to apply for the DCC Educational Foundation scholarships. "We encourage students enrolled in STEM-H programs to also complete the dedicated STEM-H application. In total, we offer over 100 named scholarships, totaling half a million dollars," he stated. “There is scholarship funding for nearly every eligible applicant.”

Beginning in the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year, the John A. and Iris P. Bostian Endowment, established in memory of their son, Joseph A. Bostian, will award the Joseph A. Bostian BEST Scholarship Award - Building Excellent Scholars Today (BEST). This new endowment fund will support eligible scholarship applicants, with awards determined based on eligibility and financial need, ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars to assist with the cost of tuition, books, and tools.

The DCC Scholarship Committee will begin reviewing scholarship applications later in June and will continue until funding is exhausted to eligible scholarship recipients. The application, along with the necessary Financial Aid Information Worksheet, is available online.
