Danville Community College to Host Open House on Nov. 17

Anyone interested in attending Danville Community College (DCC) is invited to visit the campus during DCC’s upcoming Open House event on Wednesday, November 17, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Individuals who are interested in obtaining a degree or professional credential at DCC are encouraged to attend and learn more about programs of study, scholarships, and financial aid.

“We want the communities we serve to be aware of all the opportunities we have to offer,” said Geoffrey Colbert, dean of student services. “By coming to our campus and experiencing firsthand the feeling of community and family that our school fosters, prospective students can gain a better understanding of the many benefits that a quality education provides.”

Staff at the Open House event will work with prospective students to facilitate on-the-spot admissions, financial aid assistance, and campus tours.

“Taking the first step toward higher education can often be intimidating,” said Dean Colbert. “Events like this allow us to provide one-on-one assistance to those who need a little extra guidance on getting started.”

Attendees will also enjoy games, free food, and other fun activities during the event. There will also be a $500 scholarship giveaway, courtesy of the Danville Community College Educational Foundation.

“We strive to provide a fun, exciting atmosphere on our campus,” said Dean Colbert. “Our student activities staff are always working to ensure DCC provides the full ‘college experience’ to our students, including social events, clubs, and volunteer opportunities.”

With many avenues for financial assistance, including scholarships, federal aid, and work-study, most students attend Danville Community College with no out-of-pocket costs.

“DCC and the Virginia Community College System have worked tirelessly to ensure that students can pursue their educational goals without financial barriers,” said Dean Colbert. “Not only do students receive assistance with tuition payment, we also provide a wide array of resources that address food insecurity, housing, and childcare. We firmly believe that nothing should stop a student who wants to receive an education.”

The Open House is set to take place in the DCC Student Center on the College’s main campus.
