New and current Danville Community College (DCC) students seeking to reduce the cost of their tuition have access to apply for more than 100 named scholarships totaling a half-million dollars. The Danville Community College Educational Foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications with a priority deadline of March 31, 2024.
Recognizing the persistent concern of tuition and textbook expenses in higher education decisions, Shannon Hair, Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Development and Executive Director of the DCC Educational Foundation, expressed optimism about the impact of the many scholarships offered to students. "The scholarships provided by the DCC Educational Foundation, when combined with financial aid, have the potential to offset out-of-pocket costs for our students entirely," Hair remarked.
Gratitude is extended to the numerous generous donors supporting the DCC Educational Foundation, resulting in an impressive pool of over $500,000 in scholarship funds available to eligible DCC students.
“We rely heavily on our generous donors and stakeholders to help fund our student scholarships,” said Hair. “Without their continuous support, we would not be able to positively impact our students in this important way.”
Hair urged every student to submit a DCC Educational Foundation scholarship application, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the scholarships. "We encourage students enrolled in STEM-H programs to also complete the dedicated STEM-H application. In total, we offer over 100 named scholarships, totaling half a million dollars," he stated. “There is scholarship funding for nearly every eligible applicant.”
Beginning in the upcoming academic year, the John A. and Iris P. Bostian Endowment in memory of their son, Joseph A. Bostian, will be available for eligible scholarship applicants. This endowment fund will be known as the Joseph A. Bostian BEST Scholarship Award - Building Excellent Scholars Today (BEST).
Every DCC student who is eligible for a DCC Educational Foundation Scholarship will be awarded a Joseph A. Bostian BEST Scholarship Award beginning in this upcoming academic year. Amounts will be determined based on eligibility and financial need. Those amounts could range from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars to assist with the costs of tuition, books and/or tools.
With the current number of annual and endowed scholarships at the DCC Educational Foundation and now with the BEST Scholarship Award Program, these funds will collectively
create DCC Educational Foundation's version of a Scholarship Promise Program. DCC Educational Foundation scholarships provide financial assistance for a wide array of DCC programs, encompassing both credit and non-credit courses, and catering to both incoming freshmen and returning students.
To facilitate a timely review process, the DCC Scholarship Committee will evaluate applications following the March 31 priority deadline, with scholarship awards commencing as early as May. Monthly disbursements will continue until all funds are allocated. The application, accompanied by the necessary Financial Aid Information Worksheet, is available online.
