“It has been an honor to have DCC featured on such a prestigious and widely-viewed program like ‘Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid’,” said Dr. Jerry Wallace, President of Danville Community College. “Telling our story and articulating how our mission supports the economic transformation of our region has always been a major goal for DCC. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share this story with a national audience. ”

The segment, set to air on public television beginning November 27, 2023, is a testament to the resilience and dedication of the entire Danville/Pittsylvania County community and its dynamic collaboration with DCC. Viewers will gain insight into the inspiring narrative of a region that has successfully navigated economic challenges, emerging as a shining example of revitalization. DCC's role in this renaissance is instrumental, supporting educational opportunities and workforce development that drive the region's continued prosperity.

“We know that the workforce in our region is the backbone of our revitalization efforts,” Dr. Wallace continued. “As more and more industries select Southside Virginia as their location of choice to do business, it is critical that we produce and maintain a workforce that stands ready to meet the demands of economic growth in our community.”

This segment will offer viewers an inside look into the remarkable comeback of the Dan River region and emphasize the critical role of education and community collaboration in achieving such remarkable progress.

The production of the segment was made possible thanks to the support of many community partners and the Danville Community College Administration, including Clark Casteel, President & CEO of the Danville Regional Foundation; Alonzo Jones, Mayor of the City of Danville; Corrie Teague Bobe, Director of Economic Development & Tourism for the City of Danville; Dr. Cornelius Johnson, Vice President of Academic Affairs & Student Services at DCC; and Shannon Hair, Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Development and Executive Director of the DCC Educational Foundation.
