DCC Offers EMT Training in South Boston and Danville

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training is coming to Halifax and Pittsylvania counties through Danville Community College (DCC). Through a partnership with the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC), DCC is offering classes in person in South Boston, and virtually in Danville/Pittsylvania County.

Employment of emergency medical technicians and paramedics is projected to grow 15 percent through 2029, faster than the average for all occupations, with an average annual salary of $40,000 across the Commonwealth.

“We’ve had so many interested individuals ask us when we would be offering EMT training courses,” said Brian Jackson, vice president of Workforce Services for DCC. “Not only are we now offering the program, we’re offering it in both Halifax and Pittsylvania counties. This course will prepare students to sit for the VA EMT-B exam and ultimately further their career in emergency response and other healthcare fields, such as nursing.”

In addition to the EMT program, DCC is offering a wide variety of programs completely free through the Re-Employing Virginians (REV) initiative.

“If students enroll by December 14 in a qualifying program, they can attend DCC and receive a workforce credential of their choice completely tuition-free, thanks to the REV initiative,” Jackson continued. “We are encouraging individuals who may be interested in enrolling in a REV program to visit our website, www.danville.edu/rev, to begin the process.”

DCC, in partnership with the Danville Community College Educational Foundation, is also offering a wide variety of ways to pay for courses, beyond the REV initiative, at no out-of-pocket cost to the student.

“We never want financial hurdles to stop students from pursuing their higher education goals,” said Dr. Jacqueline Gill Powell, president of DCC. “Our team has worked diligently to ensure that every scholarship and opportunity for financial aid is easily accessible to anyone who wants to attend courses at DCC.”

Enrollment for the EMT program is open now and classes begin February 2, 2021. For more information or to enroll today, contact Chad Younger at 434-797-8573 or Chadrick.Younger@danville.edu.
