(March 6, 2019) – Hidden beneath the campus of Danville Community College (DCC) was a veritable trove of college history just waiting to be uncovered. That is exactly what happened earlier this semester when DCC’s information technology department discovered a collection of slides—film positives—which reveal a powerful visual history spanning more than two decades of instruction and camaraderie at DCC from 1960 to 1985.
“This collection of photographs chronicles a truly special time in Danville Community College’s history,” said DCC Interim President Dr. Betty Jo Foster. “It is fortuitous that the slides were discovered this year, as so many of our treasured retirees are still able to enjoy them and reminisce together about days gone by. While I believe DCC’s best days are still to come, we all made some precious memories in the 1970s and 1980s.”
The slides, which were mostly Kodak Kodachrome color transparencies, were turned over to the college’s Office of Public Relations, which then scanned them in high resolution.
“The timing is ideal for the publication of this virtual gallery,” Acting Director of Public Relations and Marketing Bobby Allen Roach said. “As an alumnus and in my current role at the college, I am proud to lead this project as DCC’s history continues to be written.”
Faculty, staff, and retirees have all been invited to submit photographs from their own collections into what is being referred to as “DCC’s Living History,” a visual online repository of the rich and diverse experiences at the college through the years.
