DANVILLE, VA - Danville Community College (DCC) hosted a successful 2nd Annual Elected Officials Day on October 28, 2024, at the Shields Student Center, drawing local, regional, and state leaders to engage in discussions about critical initiatives in higher education and workforce development. Attendees enjoyed a Meet & Greet dinner before diving into a comprehensive agenda aimed at fostering collaboration between DCC and the communities it serves.
Dr. Jerry Wallace, President of Danville Community College, opened the event by welcoming the guests, emphasizing DCC’s dedication to advancing education and workforce readiness within the region. Dr. Wallace highlighted the college’s commitment to strategic partnerships and initiatives that address the educational and economic needs of the community.

The presentation of Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Strategic Initiatives, including the Accelerate Opportunity 2030 Strategic plan, facilitated by members of DCC’s Executive Cabinet, presented insights into how these initiatives are designed to increase access, equity, and success for students, while equipping them with the skills needed in a rapidly changing job market.
A central focus of the evening was a presentation on "The Future of Work and Higher Education" by Dr. Laura Ullrich, Senior Regional Economist, and Stephanie Norris, Senior Regional Analyst from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Their presentation provided a detailed economic outlook and underscored the evolving role of community colleges in preparing students to meet the demands of a dynamic workforce.
The evening concluded with closing remarks, affirming DCC’s role as an essential partner in the economic development and educational advancement of the region.
