CyberKnights Showdown Cybersecurity Competition

Danville Community College (DCC), in conjunction with the National Security Agency/Department of Homeland Security (NSA/DHS), will be hosting its second annual 'CyberKnights Showdown' cybersecurity capture-the-flag (CTF) competition on October 4th, 2024 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. The competition is sponsored and hosted by the DCC cybersecurity club -  the 'CyberKnights'.

  • Who Can Compete?

    DCC, by invitation only, welcomes students from area high schools and surrounding community colleges to participate in this event. Participation is limited to one team of three students per school.

    Observer teams will also be allowed to participate in their own competition on-site for those schools who do not yet feel ready to participate in the actual competition.

     

  • Where Will the Competition Be Held?

    The competition will take place in the newly built, state-of-the-art Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in the Temple Building on the main DCC Campus.

    Free parking will be provided for all guests and participants in the parking lot beside the Temple Building.

  • How Will the Competition Be Formatted?

    The competition will take place in an online, capture-the-flag environment where students be prompted to solve various cybersecurity scenarios, prompts, and puzzles.

    Competition categories include:

    Open Source Intelligence Gathering (OSINT),  

    Forensic,  

    Web Exploitation,  

    Steganography,  

    Cryptography,  

    Network Traffic Analysis,

    Reverse Engineering,  

    Encryption,  

    Category Call Special Assignments.

  • Is There Any Cost to Participate?

    There is no cost to participate in this competition. DCC will provide all technology, internet services, and lunch following the competition - free of charge. All participating schools will be responsible for transportation to and from the event.

  • Are There Prizes for Winners of the Competition?

    Yes! Along with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place commemorative medals, there will be prizes for each winning team.
