Danville Community College to Celebrate Class of 2025 at Commencement Ceremony on May 17

Danville Community College (DCC) will celebrate the achievements of its 2025 graduates during its annual commencement ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Averett University’s North Campus. This special milestone will honor the hard work, dedication, and accomplishments of students from a wide range of academic and workforce programs. Doors will open at 8 a.m.

“This ceremony represents more than just the conclusion of studies—it is a celebration of perseverance, growth, and possibility,” said Dr. Cornelius Johnson, Interim President of Danville Community College. “Our graduates are prepared to lead, innovate, and serve. I’m incredibly proud of each student who has reached this meaningful moment in their journey.”

This year, more than 600 Danville Community College students will graduate, collectively earning an outstanding 977 individual credentials. These include associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates across a diverse range of academic and career pathways—underscoring DCC’s continued commitment to student success and workforce readiness.

“Commencement is a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of education,” said Dr. Gabriel Olmstead, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs & Student Services. “Our graduates have overcome challenges, embraced learning, and grown into leaders and innovators. It’s an honor to celebrate their achievements and the promise they hold for the future.”

Admission to the event is by ticket only to ensure the comfort and safety of all attendees.

The ceremony will feature DCC Class 1981 Alumni Rick Barker as the keynote speaker. A passionate advocate for education and leadership, Barker brings a dynamic perspective to this year’s celebration.

“It’s an incredible honor to speak to the graduating class of 2025,” said Barker. “These students have shown dedication, grit, and a willingness to grow—qualities that will serve them well no matter where their paths lead. I’m excited to be part of such a meaningful milestone in their lives.”

As part of DCC’s rich tradition, a bagpiper will lead the graduates into and out of the ceremony, adding a ceremonial and celebratory tone to the proceedings.

This year’s National Anthem will be performed by Lauren “Abby” Chism, a 2025 graduate, who will showcase her talent on the violin in a stirring tribute to the nation and her classmates.

DCC invites the community to join in congratulating the Class of 2025 as they take their next steps toward shaping the future—whether that’s entering the workforce, continuing their education, or contributing to their communities in new and impactful ways.
