Danville Community College (DCC) has officially been reaffirmed by SACSCOC (The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges), soon to be The Commission on Colleges and Universities, confirming that the college continues to meet the rigorous standards of quality required for institutional accreditation.

Accreditation reaffirmation is one of the most significant milestones a higher education institution can achieve. The process involves a comprehensive evaluation of the college’s academic programs, student support services, governance, financial stability, institutional effectiveness, and commitment to continuous improvement.
The reaffirmation reflects years of collaborative work by faculty, staff, administrators, and stakeholders across the college and demonstrates DCC’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities and student-centered services.
“This reaffirmation is a powerful validation of the diligent work taking place each and every day at Danville Community College,” said Dr. Cornelius Johnson, President of Danville Community College. “It confirms that our students receive a quality education supported by strong academic programs, effective services, responsible stewardship, and a culture of continuous improvement. Accreditation reaffirmation is truly a team achievement, and every faculty member, staff member, and administrator played a role in demonstrating the strength of our institution. As we celebrate our 60th Anniversary year, this achievement reinforces our commitment to excellence and our vision of becoming a Leader College that transforms lives and strengthens our region.”
The reaffirmation process evaluates institutions against a comprehensive set of standards designed to ensure educational quality and institutional integrity. Colleges must demonstrate effectiveness in achieving their mission, supporting student success, maintaining sound governance and fiscal practices, and continuously assessing and improving operations.
“While reaffirmation celebrates the work we have accomplished, it also serves as a foundation for the future,” said Dr. DeAndre Howard, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services at Danville Community College. “We are committed to continuously strengthening our academic programs, expanding innovative learning opportunities, and enhancing the student support services that help learners succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Our focus remains on creating clear pathways to careers, transfer opportunities, and lifelong success while ensuring every student receives the resources, guidance, and support needed to reach their goals.”
The reaffirmation ensures that DCC remains accredited and eligible to participate in federal financial aid programs while continuing to offer students credentials that are recognized and respected by employers and transfer institutions.
“The SACSCOC reaffirmation affirms the exceptional work being done at Danville Community College under President Johnson’s leadership,” said Chancellor David Doré. “This is also a testament to the college’s commitment to providing a high-quality education to the Danville community and the surrounding region."
The reaffirmation comes during a period of significant momentum for the college. In recent years, DCC has experienced enrollment growth, expanded workforce and apprenticeship opportunities, launched new programs such as Aviation Maintenance Technology, strengthened partnerships with regional employers and educational institutions, and earned designation as a Military Friendly School. These accomplishments support the college’s strategic vision of becoming a Leader College recognized for excellence, innovation, collaboration, and transformational outcomes for students and the communities it serves.
Since opening its doors in 1966, Danville Community College has served as a gateway to higher education, workforce development, and economic opportunity for the citizens of Southern Virginia. As the college celebrates its 60th Anniversary, reaffirmation of accreditation serves as both a recognition of past accomplishments and a foundation for future success as DCC continues its pursuit of transforming lives through education.
