Danville Community College to Host Precision Machining Technology Program Information Sessions for New Spring Cohort on November 19

Danville Community College (DCC) is pleased to announce a series of information sessions for its Precision Machining Technology (PMT) Program on Tuesday, November 19, as part of the launch of its first-ever spring cohort for PMT. This new cohort opens up fresh opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in machining, allowing prospective students to enroll in this high-demand program for the spring 2025 semester.

Three information sessions will be held at 9:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. at the PMT Lab in the Charles R. Hawkins Engineering & Industrial Technology Center, located at 1003 Boswell St., Danville, VA 24541. Each session is open to the public and will provide attendees with an overview of the PMT program, a guided tour of the state-of-the-art facilities, and a chance to meet DCC’s skilled instructors. Participants will also learn more about high-paying career pathways within the precision machining industry and the many advantages of joining the new spring cohort.

Kevin Poole, Professor of Precision Machining Technology at DCC, highlighted the program's commitment to hands-on learning. “Our students benefit from real-world training on cutting-edge equipment,” Poole said. “We work closely with regional industry partners to ensure that our graduates are ready for the workforce, and the additional spring cohort is a direct response to the strong demand we’re seeing for these critical skills.”

With the launch of this additional cohort, DCC is expanding access to its nationally recognized PMT program, which is known for its rigorous training, job placement success, and partnerships with top manufacturing companies. DCC’s PMT program gives students hands-on experience with advanced machinery and tools, preparing them for skilled roles in various manufacturing sectors.

Melissa Mann, Dean of Career & Technical Education at DCC, shared her enthusiasm for the new spring cohort, stating, “DCC is dedicated to meeting the educational needs of our community and providing a pathway to meaningful, high-demand careers. With the launch of this spring cohort, we are making it possible for even more students to access training that prepares them for success in the precision machining industry.”

These information sessions are free and open to the public, making them an ideal opportunity for anyone seeking a rewarding career in machining or those looking to enhance their technical skills.
