Danville Community College to Host Registered Apprenticeship Information Session and Signing Ceremony On November 20

Danville Community College (DCC) has announced an upcoming Registered Apprenticeship Information Session and Signing Ceremony, set to take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the Shields Student Center on the DCC campus. This event is free and open to the public and will provide valuable insights into the registered apprenticeship system, highlighting how it serves as a powerful pathway for both students and employers to meet workforce needs.

The event will begin with an educational session that will delve into the fundamentals of registered apprenticeships, who can benefit from them, and how they function as a bridge between educational institutions and the workplace. Participants will learn about the vast opportunities and advantages of apprenticeships for students, recent graduates, and career switchers, as well as for businesses seeking a skilled workforce.

Jessica Dalton, Vice President of Workforce Services at DCC, expressed her enthusiasm about the event, stating, “We are thrilled to host this event and to demonstrate how DCC serves as a bridge between education and industry. Registered apprenticeships offer a vital avenue for students to gain hands-on experience and real-world skills that lead to sustainable, rewarding careers.”

Following the educational session, Donna Carvana, State Director of Virginia Works, will deliver a presentation focusing on DCC’s role as a model institution in registered apprenticeships.

As a recognized intermediary apprenticeship site, the first in the Virginia Community Colleges System, DCC has established itself as a leader in connecting businesses with highly qualified apprentices, enhancing workforce readiness in the region. Carvana will also discuss how DCC’s programs are structured to equip apprentices with specialized skills and industry credentials, making them highly sought after in the local job market.

The event will conclude with the signing of an MOU between DCC and KTL Restorations, officially marking KTL Restorations as an Official Registered Apprenticeship Worksite in partnership with DCC. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in aligning education and industry to prepare students for successful, skilled careers.

“Establishing partnerships like the one with KTL Restorations strengthens the pipeline from our classrooms to in-demand careers,” said Barry Richmond, Apprenticeships Coordinator at DCC. “As more businesses recognize the value of registered apprenticeships, students gain unique training experiences that are essential for their success and, ultimately, for the growth of our community.”

Community members, students, and local businesses are encouraged to attend to learn more about the benefits of registered apprenticeships and how they can become involved.
