Danville Community College Hosts Welcome Receptions for New President Dr. Cornelius Johnson

On Wednesday, July 30, Danville Community College (DCC) proudly hosted two celebratory receptions to welcome its newly appointed president, Dr. Cornelius Johnson.

The first event, held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at DCC’s Shields Student Center, brought together faculty, staff, and retired employees to formally meet and celebrate with Dr. Johnson in a relaxed and collegial setting. Guests had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Johnson, play a few rounds of 'Get to Know Your President', and reconnect with colleagues while enjoying refreshments and fellowship.

Later that evening, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., DCC welcomed members of its College Advisory Board, local business and industry partners, and elected officials to a special reception held in Dr. Johnson’s honor. The event celebrated the college’s strong community partnerships and marked a new chapter of collaboration and leadership under Dr. Johnson’s guidance.

Dr. Johnson, who officially stepped into the role as DCC’s eighth president on July 1, shared his enthusiasm and vision for the future of the institution during both events.

“I am honored to serve the students, employees, and community members who make DCC such an extraordinary place,” Dr. Johnson said. “Together, we will build on the college’s legacy of excellence and ensure that DCC continues to be a beacon of opportunity and innovation in our region.”

Dr. Johnson brings extensive experience in higher education leadership, student success, and workforce development to his new role. His appointment signals a renewed commitment to community engagement, academic excellence, and inclusive growth.
