Danville Community College (DCC) has seen a significant increase in enrollment for the Spring 2023 semester, with a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is attributed to many factors – most notably, the hard work of the faculty and staff at the college.
DCC President Dr. Jerry Wallace, commented on the college's recent success, saying: "We are thrilled to see such an increase in enrollment at Danville Community College. Under the leadership of Dr. Johnson and Dean Cathy Pulliam, our Student Services department started new initiatives to engage potential students and retain existing students. Our mission is to provide quality comprehensive education, workforce programs, and services to promote student success and our enrollment is a reflection of our college community’s efforts! Even as we end the school year, DCC is preparing to host all seniors in our service region on campus for our ‘Knight for a Day’ event."
Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services, Dr. Cornelius Johnson, also spoke about the college's recent success, saying: "Our faculty and staff have been working diligently to provide our students with the resources they need to succeed. We have developed new programs, expanded our course offerings, and enhanced our support services to better meet the needs of our students. We are proud to see our efforts have paid off and we look forward to continuing this work in service to our students, community, and region. We will continue to commit to our students by employing strategies through our enrollment management plan for the growth and success of our institution”
The increase in enrollment can be attributed to a variety of factors, including the college's focus on providing high-quality education and support services, as well as the expansion of online course offerings. In addition, DCC has developed new programs in response to the changing needs of the workforce, such as the Cybersecurity program, which has seen significant interest from students.
DCC has also focused on providing support services to ensure that students have the resources they need to succeed, such as academic advising, tutoring, and financial aid assistance. The college has also worked to create a welcoming and inclusive campus environment, with initiatives such as the upcoming career fairs, ‘Knight for a Day’ for local high school students, open houses, and Spring Fling.
Enrollment for Summer and Fall 2023 semesters begins April 1.
