DANVILLE, VA – Danville Community College (DCC) proudly announces that its Registered Nursing (RN) Program has been granted accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This prestigious recognition affirms the high standards of DCC’s nursing education and will retroactively apply to all program graduates dating back to November 1, 2022.
The ACEN is a nationally recognized accrediting agency that ensures quality in nursing education through rigorous peer-reviewed evaluation. With this milestone, DCC’s RN program joins the ranks of respected nursing programs across the country recognized for excellence in curriculum, instruction, and student outcomes.
“This is an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects the dedication, passion, and professionalism of our nursing faculty and staff,” said Dr. Jim Emerson, Director of the Nursing Program at DCC. “Earning ACEN accreditation affirms the quality of our program and opens doors for our graduates, especially those pursuing advanced degrees or seeking employment in institutions requiring graduation from an accredited program.”
ACEN accreditation not only enhances the program’s credibility but also ensures that students are receiving an education that meets or exceeds national standards. Employers, licensing boards, and universities frequently look to ACEN accreditation as a benchmark of academic and professional readiness.
Dr. Cornelius Johnson, Interim President of Danville Community College, praised the program’s achievement, stating, “This is a proud moment for DCC and the entire Dan River Region. The ACEN accreditation signals to students, families, and healthcare providers that our nursing graduates are exceptionally well prepared to meet the demands of today’s healthcare environment. It’s also a testament to our institution’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.”
Graduates of the program from November 1, 2022, onward are now considered alumni of an ACEN-accredited nursing program, providing additional confidence to employers and credentialing agencies regarding the rigor and integrity of their training.
“The retroactive nature of this accreditation is especially meaningful,” added Dr. Emerson. “It ensures that our recent graduates, many of whom are already serving in our local hospitals and clinics, receive the recognition and advantages that come with having completed an accredited program.”
DCC continues to expand its healthcare offerings to meet workforce needs in the region, with a focus on accessible, high-quality training for students entering the health professions.
