DCC Welcomes New VP of Academic Affairs and Student Services

Danville Community College (DCC) welcomed its new vice president of academic affairs and student services, Dr. Cornelius Johnson, on Monday, January 11.

Dr. Johnson has worked in the field of higher education for over 22 years where he has served in a range of leadership capacities for both the community college and the four-year institution. His leadership resume entails serving as a Dean of Student Services for more than seven years at two different institutions, including his work as a Faculty member at Indiana State University, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Houston-Downtown, and Lone Star College-Tomball. As a Program Manager at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, he recruited and supported some of the nation’s brightest scholars across the country in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  

“I have a passion for supporting not only the students who are pursuing their own dreams and aspirations, but also partnering and supporting faculty, staff, and administration who are championing their causes,” said Dr. Johnson.  “I am thrilled to be serving and joining the community and family of Danville community college.”    

Dr. Johnson started his educational journey at Seattle Central Community College where he earned his Associate of Arts degree. He then went on to the University of Washington and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications, and continued his educational pursuits at Indiana State University, where he earned a Master of Science in Student Affairs Administration. To further hone his skills, Dr. Johnson earned his Doctor of Education in Leadership in Educational Administration in May 2020 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he completed his dissertation on the Relationship Between Enrollment Management and Graduation Rates at the Community College.  

Danville Community College is a two-year institution of higher education under the state-wide Virginia Community College System.
