Sovah Health Donates Hospital Beds to Strengthen Nursing Education at Danville Community College

Danville Community College (DCC) is proud to announce a generous equipment donation from Sovah Health, which has provided 10 hospital beds to support the college’s nursing programs.

The donated beds will be utilized across DCC’s Registered Nursing (RN), Practical Nursing (LPN), and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) programs, enhancing hands-on training opportunities for students preparing to enter the healthcare workforce.

The donation comes as Sovah Health upgrades equipment within its own facilities, allowing the college to replace aging equipment and better simulate real-world clinical environments for its students.

“We are incredibly grateful to Sovah Health for this meaningful investment in our students and programs,” said Dr. Cornelius Johnson, President of DCC. “Access to updated, industry-relevant equipment is essential in preparing our students to deliver high-quality patient care. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the healthcare workforce in our region.”

Dr. DeAndre Howard, Vice President of Academic Affairs & Student Services, emphasized the impact on student learning. “Hands-on experience is at the core of healthcare education. These beds will allow our students to train in an environment that closely mirrors what they will encounter in hospitals and clinical settings, increasing both their confidence and competence.”

According to Dr. Jim Emerson, Director of Nursing Programs, the donation comes at a critical time. “Our programs have been in need of updated equipment, and this donation directly enhances our ability to provide high-quality, practical instruction. These beds will be used daily by students across all levels of our nursing programs, making a lasting impact on their education and skill development.”

“Sovah Health is committed to supporting the growth and success of our local healthcare community,” said Shelly Cordum, Market CNO of Sovah Health. “As we upgraded beds in our facility, we are pleased to donate beds to our local colleges program. These beds remain valuable training tools that will help prepare the next generation of healthcare professions. We are proud to partner with the college in strengthening workforce development and investing in the future of care for our region.”

This collaboration highlights the strong partnership between DCC and regional healthcare providers, ensuring that students are equipped with the tools and experience needed to meet the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals across Southern Virginia.
