TARE (Training Assessments for Retention of Employment) is a Virginia grant funded program designed to help eligible students by eliminating barriers to education. The program provides Job Skills training and opportunities in Short-term specialized skills training to assist in preparing individuals for In-demand Jobs, while discovering a career pathway that provides for economic stability.
TARE provides paid incentives for completing milestones within their field of study and earning workforce credentials. The program covers expenses and necessities for the student to successfully complete their program of study. Supportive services are also available for eligible students. All services provided at no cost!
- Phase I: 4-week Career Readiness Course
Eligible students will complete a 4-week curriculum that includes assessments and skill development in:
- Career Development
- Workplace Prep & Training
- Digital Literacy
- Work Ethics & Personal Responsibility
- Resume Prep
- Mock Interviewing including Career Closet Availability
- introduction to Microsoft Office
- Healthy Lifestyles
- Confidence/Self-Awareness
- Interpersonal Skill Building
- Childcare Resource
- Community Resource Access
- TABE Testing (Test of Adult Basic Education)
- Tutoring Services for Remediation in identified areas of need
- GED Services - Prep & testing
- National Career readiness Certification
- Support and Incentives (stipends, gas cards, food cards, etc.) provided to students to alleviate/eliminate barriers to training and employment
- Phase II: Program of Study
- Student enters into an educational program
- Financial assistance is offered for Tuition/Books/Supplies (approved programs)
- Although TARE focuses on short-term training (up to 2 semesters), limited assistance can be offered for degree completion programs (3-4 semesters).
