Rights & Responsibilities

Each student with a disability at DCC has the right to: 

  • An equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from courses, programs, services or activities 

  • An equal opportunity to work and to learn, to receive reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids and services 

  • The assurance that all disability-related records will be confidential and maintained separately from college/university records in accordance with applicable law 

  • An accommodation in a timely manner once it has been properly requested 

  • Discuss accommodations with each instructor, identifying which accommodation will be utilized for each class 

 

Each student with a disability at DCC is responsible for: 

  • Identifying himself/herself as an individual with a disability to the Accessibility Coordinator 

  • Providing appropriate documentation from a qualified professional 

  • Initiating all requests for accommodations and services each semester 

  • Understanding accommodations are not retroactive 

  • Working with ODS and the instructor in obtaining and implementing accommodations 

  • Taking responsibility for using or not using accommodations 

  • Meeting qualifications and maintaining essential institutional standards for courses, programs, services or activities 

  • Informing the Accessibility Coordinator in a timely manner when concerns arise 

If a student has questions or problems concerning the appropriateness of an accommodation, he or she must contact the Accessibility Coordinator.
