Tuition and Fees per Credit Hour*
The tuition and fee rates below are effective for the Spring 2025 semester only. Tuition is subject to change by the action of the State Board for Community Colleges. Fees are payable with tuition and are charged on a per-credit basis.

In accordance with Chapter 782, 2017 Acts of Assembly, the State Board for Community Colleges approved the Military Contract Rate to apply to any out-of-state active duty military personnel stationed outside of Virginia, and not domiciled in Virginia, whether the tuition is paid by the military employer or personally by the active duty military member. This rate is already approved for those non-resident active duty military members stationed in Virginia for which those installations have contracted with the college.
The e-rate is applicable to designated distance-learning courses delivered entirely online.
*Explanation of fees
- Student Activity fee: charged per credit hour; Funds various student activities and programs including, but not limited to, honor societies, leadership training, community and cultural events, clubs, athletics, student publications and learning assistance.
- Technology fee: charged per credit hour; Finances major improvements in information technology and is used to purchase technology equipment for higher education purposes.
- Capital fee: charged per credit hour; Assessed on all out-of-state students to help offset debt service bonds issued for capital construction.
- Maintenance fee: charged per credit hour; Funds used to maintain college parking lots and areas.

Other Fees
There are NO special laboratory or library fees. Students are responsible for any College property which they damage or lose (such as laboratory or shop equipment, supplies, library books, and materials).

Local scholarships- Remitted by private organizations. Can be remitted by mail or in the Cashier's office and entered on student accounts by Financial Aid office.
Third Party Organizations- Remit a signed tuition authorization letter/form to the Business office by mail, email, or at the Cashier's office, which will be assigned to the student's account for the designated semester.
- Registration and Payment of Tuition Deadlines
Fall, Spring, Summer, and Special Session Classes
Registration is not complete until tuition is paid. Failure to pay for classes can result in classes being removed from the student's schedule. Students are expected to finalize tuition payment, including financial aid, with the appropriate DCC office prior to attending class(es).

- A student's continued attendance at the College is dependent upon proper settlement of all debts owed the institution.
- Transcripts, certificates, diplomas, or degrees will not be issued, nor will students be permitted to complete registration until accounts are cleared satisfactorily with the Student Accounts (Business Office), Bookstore, or Library.
- Should the student fail to satisfy all due and payable amounts for tuition and fees, College loans, College fines, or other debts owed the College, the College may initiate disciplinary action in accordance with the College's Code of Student Conduct and Discipline Policy.
- Withdrawal & Tuition Refund
Students are eligible for a full tuition refund if they drop their classes or withdraw from DCC on or before the announced date each semester. Please see the Academic Calendar, which is published on the Class Schedules webpage and in the Student Handbook, for the Last Day to Withdraw with a Tuition Refund. No refunds will be considered, partial or full, after the announced date unless the student has encountered a mitigating circumstance defined as:
- A medical condition preventing the student from attending school
- Death of student or immediate family member
- National emergency or mobilization
- Administrative error on the part of the college, or
- A documented extreme financial hardship.
Please see the Student Handbook for the full, detailed Tuition Refund Policy. If one of the mitigating circumstances should apply, the student should submit a Tuition Appeal Form to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Documentation such as doctors' notes, obituaries, or other official documentation, as noted on the Tuition Appeal Form, should accompany the completed Tuition Appeal Form.
- How do I get my refund?
DCC has contracted with Nelnet to process your tuition reimbursements (revenue refunds, financial aid balance checks, and payment plan refunds) to students electronically.
- In as few as 4-6 days with the ACH (direct deposit to checking or savings) option after the refund is posted in SIS.
- Checks will be mailed to the student’s US Postal mailing address as listed on their SIS account and are usually delivered to that address with 10 to 14 days AFTER you see the refund posted on your SIS account.
- You will receive an email alert from Nelnet once the refund has been processed.

Financial Aid Refunds- Financial aid refunds occur when financial aid exceeds college charges for tuition, fees, and books.
- Refunds usually start processing approximately the sixth week of classes.
- Disbursements will be held until after the census date of the last class for students taking all dynamic classes (all classes outside of regular 16 week session).
- Waived Tuition
Section 23-7.1 of the Code of Virginia provides that free tuition for State-supported institutions be granted to children of: (1) deceased or permanently disabled veterans of the armed forces, or (2) prisoners of war or persons missing in action; or (3) persons who have been killed in the line of duty while employed or serving as a law enforcement officer, a fire fighter, or a member of a rescue squad. To be eligible for such aid, the student must be between the ages of 16 and 25, and the parent must have met certain State residency requirements.
If you are eligible for the waiver of tuition and required fees under items (1) or (2) above, you must present a letter of certification from the State Division of War Veteran's Claims to the Dean of Financial and Administrative Services before tuition can be waived. Requests for applications should be directed to the Director, Division of War Veteran's Claims, Commonwealth of Virginia, 210 Franklin Road, S.W., Roanoke, VA, 24011. If possible, applications should be submitted at least four months before the expected date of matriculation.If you are eligible for the tuition waiver under item (3) above, you must provide certification from the chief administrative officer of the law enforcement agency or the State Fire Marshall that the deceased parent was employed or serving as a law enforcement officer or fire fighter or a member of a rescue squad and was killed in the line of duty. This certification must be submitted to the Vice President of Financial and Administrative Services so that a determination can be made on the request for free tuition and required fees.
- Senior Citizen Tuition and Fees Waiver
The Senior Citizens Higher Education Act of 1974, amended in 1977, 1982, and 1989 has established specific fee waiver provisions for Virginia residents who have reached 60 years of age and wish to attend classes at a State-supported institution of higher education.
To be eligible for free tuition and fees for CREDIT COURSES, part-time or full-time, a person must meet the following criteria:
- be 60 years of age or older;
- be a legal resident of Virginia;
- had a taxable income not exceeding $23,850* for Virginia income tax purposes for the year preceding the year in which enrollment is sought;
- be admitted to the College as a student.
To be eligible for free tuition for AUDIT OF CREDIT COURSES or for taking NON-CREDIT COURSES (not to exceed three courses
per term), a person must meet the following criteria:- be 60 years of age or older;
- be a legal resident of Virginia;
- be admitted to the College as a student.
Any senior citizen planning to enroll at the College should contact the Office of Admissions and Records when registering for classes under the tuition waiver program. Paragraph 23-38.56 of the Senior Citizens Higher Education Act states in part "a senior citizen shall only be admitted to a course in which enrollment is sought after all tuition paying students have been accommodated." If eligible senior citizens wish to enroll in a course free of charge, they must wait until after the registration period for tuition paying students is over and then register on a space available basis. If they wish to reserve a place in a class, they are welcome to register in the same fashion as any fee-paying student. In doing so, the refund policy of the College shall apply the same as for any fee-paying student.

- Books and Materials
Students are expected to obtain their own books, supplies, and consumable materials. The approximate cost of textbooks for a full-time student is $250 - $500 per semester. Contact the DCC Castle Bookstore at http://bookstore.danville.edu/home.

If you apply, are eligible, and want to use VA Education Benefits at DCC, please send a copy of your Letter/Certificate of Eligibility, the service member's DD-214, and a completed copy of the Certification Request Form to dccfinaid@danville.edu once you have registered and enrolled in classes.

- Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education program (VMSDEP)
The VMSDEP is a Commonwealth of Virginia program (Not a VA Program nor part of DCC) that provides education benefits in the form of tuition waviers or if eligible a stipend to spouses and children of qualifying Veterans who has been rated by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (USDVA) as totally and permanently disabled or at least 90 percent permanently disabled as a result of military service and of qualifying Military Service Members killed, missing in action, taken prisoner, or who has been rated by the USDVA as totally and permanently disabled or at least 90 percent permanently disabled as a direct result of involvement in covered military combat. Military service includes service in the United States Armed Forces, United States Armed Forces Reserves, or the Virginia National Guard.
The Virginia Department of Veterans Services (VDVS) is responsible for managing the program and collaborates with the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and Virginia’s public colleges and universities to assist survivors and dependents of qualified Veterans or Service members in attaining their educational goals.
Benefits are available for up to eight semesters, the equivalent of four academic years.
