How to Apply
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility for various types of aid. This is your first step even before finalizing your admissions plans. You can complete it online or print a paper copy to submit by mail or fax. You will need to complete the FAFSA each school year that you plan to enroll.
- Create a Federal Student ID (FSA ID) to log in and sign your completed FAFSA. For questions or issues regarding accounts, visit studentaid.gov/fsaid or call 1-800-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).
- Select Danville Community College as a school choice on your FAFSA (School Code: 003758).
- Obtain your Student Aid Report (SAR), a summary of the information you provided on your FAFSA. This document will list your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which determines your eligibility for different types of financial aid.
- Check for important messages regarding documents needed for verification in your SIS Student Center.
When to Apply
You can apply starting in October each year for the following school year using prior year tax information.
FAFSA Priority Deadline: March 15
Applications received by March 15 will be fully considered for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Late applications are accepted, but funding is not guaranteed. If your financial situation changes, you may apply for financial aid after the priority date. Institutional financial assistance is awarded based on availability of funds.
Documents requested by the Financial Aid Office should be submitted no later than June 1 each year.
What You Need to Apply
The FAFSA asks for information about you (your name, date of birth, address, etc.) and your financial situation. Depending on your circumstances (for instance, whether or not you are a U.S. citizen or what tax form you used), you might be asked for the following:
- Your Social Security Number (SSN)
- Your parents' Social Security Numbers (if you are a dependent student)
- Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
- Federal tax information or tax returns from the previous year, which may include your tax information as well as your spouse's (if you are married) or your parents' (if you are a dependent student)
- Records of your untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans non-education benefits
- Information on any cash or bank account assets you may have
Reapplication Process
Students must reapply for financial aid every year by the priority FAFSA filing date (March 15). Eligibility for all financial aid awarded through the Financial Aid Office is reviewed annually. The amount of financial aid you receive may vary from year to year depending on your financial need and other eligibility requirements.
