Danville Community College Earns 2026–2027 Military Friendly® School Designation

Danville Community College (DCC) has been designated a 2026–2027 Military Friendly® School, earning Silver status for its continued commitment to supporting veterans, active-duty service members, and their families.

 

Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 3,200 schools participated in the 2026–2027 survey cycle, with only a select group earning recognition based on their ability to meet and exceed standards in student retention, graduation, job placement, and support services for military-connected students.

Danville Sheriff’s Office Joins DCC’s Knight's Apprenticeship Program

Danville Community College (DCC) and the Danville Sheriff's Office have officially partnered to expand workforce development opportunities through a newly signed apprenticeship agreement, creating new pathways for careers in public safety.

 

The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony held on DCC’s campus on April 28, 2026. Sheriff Mike Mondul attended the event to sign the agreement, reinforcing the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to workforce development and community partnership.

As part of this milestone, the Danville Sheriff’s Office also signed its first registered apprentice, Corporal Shannon Brooks, Master Deputy, marking the official launch of the program.

 

“This partnership represents the power of collaboration in action,” said Dr. Cornelius Johnson, President of DCC. “By working alongside the Danville Sheriff’s Office, we are creating meaningful opportunities for individuals to pursue careers in public service while building a stronger, more prepared workforce for our region. Apprenticeships like this are essential to ensuring that our community continues to grow and thrive.”

 

This initiative is part of DCC’s Knight's Apprenticeship Program, which brings together a growing network of industry partners who establish apprenticeship agreements with the College to develop skilled talent pipelines.

Danville Community College Leads Virginia in Apprenticeship Innovation

Danville Community College (DCC) continues to distinguish itself as a leader in workforce development, recently presenting at the Virginia Community College System New Horizons Conference highlighting its innovative, employer-driven apprenticeship model as a best practice for colleges across the Commonwealth.

 

During the session, titled “Bridging Workforce Development & Career and Technical Education: A Collaborative Apprenticeship Model with Industry Partners,” DCC leaders shared how the college has successfully built a scalable, industry-aligned apprenticeship framework that connects education directly to employment.

 

The presentation was led by a cross-functional team including Jessica Dalton, Vice President of Workforce Services; Dr. DeAndre Howard, Vice President of Academic Affairs & Student Services; Melissa Mann, Dean of Career & Technical Education; Chad Younger, Director of Workforce Services; and Barry Richmond, Apprenticeship Coordinator. The session also featured industry partner Rogers Heating & Cooling, demonstrating the power of collaboration between education and employers.

Danville Community College (DCC) officially signed Robert Woodall Chevrolet GMC Cadillac as a new employer partner in the Knight’s Apprenticeship Program on February 12, 2026, creating expanded paid training opportunities for students in the college’s Automotive Technology program while helping address the region’s growing demand for skilled technicians.

 

The partnership places students directly inside the dealership’s service department, where they will work alongside experienced technicians while completing their coursework at DCC. Apprentices earn wages, build industry experience, and develop professional workplace habits, all before graduation.
