DCC Welcomes New Vice President of Workforce Services
This week, Danville Community College (DCC) welcomed their new Vice President of Workforce Services, Mark Funkey.
Born in Nebraska and raised in New Mexico, Mark Funkey obtained his Bachelor of Science from Bellevue University in 2003; his Master of Arts in Management from Doane University in 2013; and he expects to graduate with a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Doane University in May of this year.
19 Hitachi Energy Employees Recognized at Training Completion Ceremony
Hitachi Energy, in partnership with Danville Community College (DCC) and the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC), held a completion ceremony on January 23 for 19 employees who participated in Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Training as part of their on-going professional development.

DCC Launches 16-week Cybersecurity Training
On January 23, 2023, Danville Community College (DCC) will launch a brand new, 16-week cybersecurity training to provide students with foundational skills to begin their careers. Offered via a hybrid format (50% online course work, 50% hands-on, in-person training), the training curriculum is a customized blend of IT certifications and cybersecurity fundamentals, including the basic knowledge required for COMPTIA-A+, COMPTIA Network+, and COMPTIA Security+.
DCC Expands Mental Health Services to Improve Student Health and Well-being
Danville Community College has partnered with TimelyMD, the leading virtual health and well-being solution in higher education, to offer students free and equitable access to mental health and basic needs support.

DCC and DATC Partner to Offer Advanced EMT Training
Danville Community College, in partnership with the Danville Area Training Center (DATC), will begin offering an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program to the community, in addition to its standard EMT Program offerings.
DCC to Host Multiple Food Distribution Events with Regional Partners
Danville Community College (DCC) is gearing up to aid regional partners in the fight against food insecurity ahead of the holidays. DCC will host two separate events, one on December 17th and one on December 21th in partnership with Tyson Foods and Feeding Southwest Virginia respectively.
Area Students Win Awards at DCC Idea Fair

As I close out my 5th month at Danville Community College, I am continually surprised and impressed by the collaboration, hard work, and innovative ideas coming out of the City of Danville, Pittsylvania, and Halifax Counties. There are so many talented people waking up every day to work toward a better Danville and a better Southern Virginia region and I’m proud to be a part of this effort.
